BCCI Responds to Speculation Over Kohli and Rohit’s ODI Future

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday addressed rumors about Virat Kohli’s and Rohit Sharma’s ODI careers possibly ending this October, ahead of the Australia tour. A media report had suggested that if the two stalwarts wish to extend their careers through the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, they would need to participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s domestic List A tournament, to maintain match fitness and selection chances. The report implied that this condition might push Kohli and Rohit towards retirement.
With the England Test series concluded and no international matches until the Asia Cup in September, speculation around their futures gripped fans. However, a BCCI source told PTI, on condition of anonymity, that the board is currently focused on preparing for the Asia Cup and the upcoming T20 World Cup, rather than worrying about the duo’s long-term plans.
