India Announces Squad for Three-Match ODI Series Against Australia. India is set to take on Australia in a three-match ODI series from October 19 to 25. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian squad for the series on Saturday, October 4.
The squad sees the much-anticipated return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to international cricket. Having retired from T20Is and Test cricket, both stars will make their comeback after a seven-month hiatus.
A major highlight of the squad is Shubman Gill being named the captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. The series now holds added significance for Gill, who will be eager to lead the team to victory and prove his mettle on the international stage.
Shreyas Iyer is also back in the Indian setup, having last represented the team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Following his impressive leadership in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he has been appointed vice-captain for the series.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out due to an injury sustained during the Asia Cup 2025. Nitish Kumar Reddy has been included as his replacement. Washington Sundar and Axar Patel will also feature as all-rounders, while Ravindra Jadeja has been dropped.
In the bowling department, Kuldeep Yadav will be India’s only specialist spinner, supported by Axar Patel and Washington Sundar. The pace attack will be led by Mohammed Siraj, with Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, and Prasidh Krishna completing the fast-bowling lineup.
