Yuzvendra Chahal registered his second IPL hat-trick, becoming only the third player in tournament history to achieve the feat more than once.
Chahal Claims Historic Hat-Trick to Shatter CSK’s Hopes and Script IPL History

Yuzvendra Chahal weaved his magic once again and made history by claiming a hat-trick in the IPL match against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. The veteran spinner delivered an exceptional performance that derailed CSK’s hopes of reaching 200 as they were bowled out for 190. Shreyas Iyer brought Chahal back into the attack to bowl the crucial penultimate over, with none other than MS Dhoni at the crease.
Chahal claimed four wickets in that over, single-handedly dismantling CSK’s lower-middle order. He started with a wide on the first ball, and Dhoni punished him with a towering six straight down the ground on the first legal delivery. However, the CSK captain attempted another aerial shot, only to be caught by Nehal Wadhera. Deepak Hooda came in next, took a single on his first ball, but Chahal was relentless, causing chaos for CSK’s batting order.

Noor Ahmad was tasked with stopping Chahal from completing his hat-trick, but he too went for a big shot, only to be caught by Marco Jansen. This gave Chahal his second IPL hat-trick, making him the first player to claim one against CSK. With this achievement, Chahal became the third player in IPL history to claim multiple hat-tricks, further solidifying his legendary status in the tournament.
Players with multiple hat-tricks in IPL

Yuzvendra Chahal joined an elite group with his second IPL hat-trick, following in the footsteps of Amit Mishra (2008, 2011, 2013) and Yuvraj Singh (2009). His first hat-trick was in 2022, and now, he has claimed two. It was also the second time in his career that Chahal claimed four wickets in an over, a feat previously achieved by Amit Mishra (2013), Andre Russell (2022), and Chahal himself (2022).
Four Wickets in an Over in IPL:
- Amit Mishra (SRH vs PWI, Pune 2013)
- Yuzvendra Chahal (RR vs KKR, Brabourne 2022)
- Andre Russell (KKR vs GT, Navi Mumbai 2022)
- Yuzvendra Chahal (PBKS vs CSK, Chennai 2025)
Chahal reflected on his historic hat-trick after the match, sharing his approach for the critical 19th over.
“Feeling very good, it was the 19th over and in front of me was Mahi bhai. It felt like it could go either way, but the plan was to go for wickets. Five fielders were inside, and I aimed to bowl on the stumps and wide to keep the batters guessing,” he said.
Chahal’s hat-trick and impressive performance continue to cement his place as one of IPL’s premier spinners.
