The International Cricket Council confirmed a technical error after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma temporarily disappeared from the ODI rankings, which were later corrected.
ICC Clarifies Rankings Glitch

The International Cricket Council addressed confusion after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were inexplicably missing from the latest ODI batting rankings. Previously ranked No. 2 and No. 4, the two Indian stars were absent from the top-100, prompting speculation on social media.
An ICC spokesperson told Hindustan Times, “There was an error in our rankings tables today, but it has been rectified.” However, the updated rankings have yet to appear on the ICC website, which still displays the last update from August 10, 2025.
What happened on Wednesday?

Both players remain active in ODIs, with no retirement or inactivity affecting their status. They last played in February 2025 during The International Cricket Council Champions Trophy in the UAE, where Rohit delivered a match-winning performance in the final, helping India secure their first ODI trophy in a decade. Kohli was equally impressive, anchoring India’s innings in challenging, spin-friendly conditions at the Dubai International Stadium.
Before the glitch, Rohit trailed only Shubman Gill in the ICC ODI batting charts, while Kohli held the fourth spot with 736 rating points. Following Wednesday’s erroneous update, Babar Azam has risen to No. 2, with Gill retaining the top position at 756 points. The ICC later acknowledged the error, citing a technical issue in the rankings system.
