“Have him run 10 km every morning…” — Yograj Singh’s straight-talking advice for Rohit Sharma ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027

Yograj Singh Wants Rohit Sharma for Five More Years. Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh believes Rohit Sharma has the class and fitness to play until 45 and that India needs him for at least five more years. The veteran batsman is set to lead the Indian team in the three-match ODI series against Australia this October.

Rohit has retired from T20Is and Test cricket but continues to captain India in ODIs. After guiding India to the ICC T20 World Cup title last year, the 38-year-old stepped away from the shortest format. Ahead of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in May 2025, he also announced his retirement from Test cricket.

The right-handed star last represented India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in March. Recent reports suggest that Rohit and Virat Kohli may retire from ODIs after the Australia series, though both aim to remain active for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.

Former India pacer Yograj Singh believes India will need Rohit Sharma for at least five more years. Speaking to News18, he suggested that the Indian opener should focus on fitness, even running 10 kilometres daily to maintain peak form.

“You can say, ‘Rohit, we need you for five more years,’ so please do more for your country. Work on your fitness, put four men on him, make him run 10 kilometres every morning. He has the class to play till 45, if he wants,” Singh said.

Yograj also praised Rohit’s batting prowess, calling him a game-changer who often outshines the opposition single-handedly.

“The man about whom so many speak rubbish – Rohit Sharma – I always said he would be my man. The way he bats, his innings stand alone while the rest of the team plays on the other side. That’s his class,” he added.

Rohit last featured in IPL 2025 for Mumbai Indians, scoring 418 runs in 15 matches at an impressive strike rate of 149.28, including four fifties. Despite a hamstring injury affecting his mobility, he often played as an Impact Player.

Looking ahead, India will face Australia in a three-match ODI series from October 19 to 25, followed by a five-match T20I series concluding on November 8.
