The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) is set to unveil two stadium stands named after former Indian women cricketers Mithali Raj and Ravi Kalpana on October 12. The ceremony will coincide with India’s match against Australia in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 at the same venue.
These will be the first stands at the stadium named after women cricketers. The decision came after India batter Smriti Mandhana, during the ‘Breaking Boundaries’ programme in August, requested Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh to honor Mithali Raj in this way. Mandhana emphasized that naming stands after women cricketers would inspire the next generation to pursue cricket professionally.
Acting on her suggestion, Lokesh discussed the proposal with the ACA, and it was agreed that the stands would be named after Mithali Raj and Ravi Kalpana—the Andhra-born wicket-keeper batter—cementing their legacy at the stadium.
Smriti Mandhana’s suggestion reflects public sentiment, says Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh

Speaking on the matter, Lokesh stated: “Smriti Mandhana’s thoughtful suggestion captures a wider public sentiment. Turning that idea into immediate action reflects our collective commitment to gender equality and our recognition of the trailblazers in women’s cricket.”
He added that this initiative marks a significant milestone in the history of women’s cricket and is sure to inspire many young cricketers as the sport continues to grow in India. The ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 is also contributing to this momentum, with large crowds turning out to support the games.
India’s women have shown impressive form with both bat and ball in the tournament. Sitting atop the points table with victories in their first two matches, they will next face South Africa on Thursday, 9th October.
