Suryakumar Yadav Withdraws Appeal Amid UAE Collapse

India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav displayed sportsmanship during the Group A encounter of the Men’s Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium, withdrawing an appeal despite UAE batter Junaid Siddique being clearly out on the fourth delivery of the 13th over, bowled by Shivam Dube. The decision offered momentary relief to the struggling UAE side, who were already under pressure from India’s formidable attack, including Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel.

The withdrawal, however, did little to change the course of the innings. UAE were bundled out for just 57 inside 14 overs, with Kuldeep Yadav (4/7) and Shivam Dube (3/4) claiming seven wickets between them.

The incident occurred when Dube bowled a bouncer, and Siddique, distracted by a towel that had fallen from the bowler, stepped out of his crease. Though the on-field umpire referred it to the third umpire and the replays confirmed Siddique was short of the crease, Suryakumar chose to withdraw the appeal, showing consideration for the batter.

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar disagreed with the decision, commenting on Sony Sports, “The towel coming off is not relevant. It is just a case of India trying to be nice to the UAE team.”

India brush aside UAE

India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to bowl, a decision quickly justified by his bowlers. The UAE got off to a 26-run opening partnership between Muhammad Waseem and Alishan Sharafu before Jasprit Bumrah struck to provide the breakthrough.

The rest of the UAE batting lineup could add only 31 more runs, resulting in the lowest-ever T20I total against India. India then chased the target effortlessly, winning by nine wickets with 93 balls to spare. Abhishek Sharma scored a quick 30, while Shubman Gill and Suryakumar remained unbeaten on 20 and 7, respectively.

In the playing XI, Sanju Samson was named as wicketkeeper ahead of Jitesh Sharma, and Shivam Dube was preferred over Rinku Singh. India went in with just one frontline pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, supported by a trio of spinners and strong all-rounders.
