Sai Sudharsan has been selected for the India squad in the upcoming Test series against England. On Saturday, May 24, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the much-anticipated team for the series. Alongside the squad announcement, Shubman Gill was named the new captain of India’s Test side following Rohit Sharma’s retirement.
Rishabh Pant will serve as Gill’s deputy in the Test format. The standout inclusion in the squad is Sai Sudharsan, who received his first-ever Test call-up. The left-handed batsman has already debuted in white-ball cricket, having appeared in three ODIs and one T20I so far.
India will play five Test matches against England on this tour. The series will kick off at Headingley, Leeds on June 20, with the final Test scheduled at Kennington Oval, London, from July 31 to August 4.
Sai Sudharsan Shares His Feelings After Maiden India Test Call-Up

“It’s an incredible feeling — truly special and somewhat surreal,” said the left-handed batter ahead of the Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings IPL match. “Any young cricketer who starts playing dreams of representing the country in Test cricket. That’s always been the ultimate goal. I’m really happy to have reached this milestone.”
When asked about his preferred batting position, Sai Sudharsan, who usually opens for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket, said he’s open to wherever the team wants him to bat.
“Playing for the country is a huge privilege, so I don’t think I’m in a position to pick my spot. I’ll be mentally and technically prepared to bat wherever the coaches want me to. I’m ready to take on whatever role the team requires,” the 23-year-old added confidently.
With the recent retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket, key positions like opener and No. 4 are now up for grabs. Meanwhile, Sudharsan continues to shine with the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025.
Currently, Sai Sudharsan holds the Orange Cap as the tournament’s top run-scorer, having amassed 638 runs in 13 matches at an average of 53.17, including one century and five half-centuries.
