Harry Brook expressed his admiration for Rishabh Pant’s batting performance in the first Test at Headingley. England’s white-ball captain lavished praise on the Indian wicketkeeper-batter ahead of the second Test of the five-match series between England and India. The second Test is scheduled to begin on July 2 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Rishabh Pant is expected to pose a major challenge for England’s bowlers after his outstanding display in the opening Test at Headingley, Leeds. The Indian vice-captain smashed twin centuries—134 and 118 runs—during the match. Despite his heroics, India fell short and lost the game by five wickets.

Rishabh Pant brilliant performance saw him break several records. He surpassed MS Dhoni to become the Indian wicketkeeper with the most Test centuries. He also became the first Indian batter ever to score two centuries in a single Test match on English soil.

In a conversation with The Hindu, England’s middle-order batter Harry Brook praised Rishabh Pant, calling him one of the finest batters in international cricket. Brook also mentioned that he thoroughly enjoyed Rishabh Pant performance in the first Test.

“He’s an awesome player. I enjoyed watching him bat. He’s such a captivating presence at the crease—people turn on their TVs just to watch him. In my opinion, he’s one of the best batters in the world,” said Brook.

Brook himself had a remarkable outing in the first innings of the Headingley Test, scoring 99 runs, although he was dismissed for a duck in the second innings. England currently lead the five-match series 1-0 after a thrilling chase of 371 runs in the first Test, powered by a century from Ben Duckett.

The Ben Stokes-led side has retained the same playing XI for the second Test. Meanwhile, India are expected to make a few changes to their lineup after a lackluster bowling performance in the series opener.
