Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni addressed the burning question about his IPL future, neither confirming a return nor announcing retirement. He said he wanted to use the “luxury” of time to make his decision.

Despite IPL 2025 being a season of disappointment for Chennai Super Kings—who were the first team eliminated from the playoffs—they wrapped up their campaign with an emphatic 83-run win over table-toppers Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Heading into CSK’s final game, speculation was rife over whether the 43-year-old would retire from the IPL. However, Dhoni kept everyone guessing post-match, stating he wasn’t in a rush to make any announcement.

“It depends,” Dhoni said at the presentation. “I have 4-5 months to decide, there’s no hurry. Need to keep the body fit. You have to be at your best. If cricketers start retiring for their performance, some of them will retire at 22.”

The World Cup-winning captain added that he would return to Ranchi to enjoy some bike rides and reflect on his decision. “I am not saying I am done, not saying I am coming back. I have the luxury of timing. Will think about it and then decide,” Dhoni concluded.

Chennai end IPL with big win over Gujarat

Openers Devon Conway and Dewald Brevis struck contrasting half-centuries to power bottom-placed Chennai Super Kings to a commanding 83-run win over Gujarat Titans, ending their IPL 2025 campaign on a high. Conway crafted a composed 52, while Brevis lit up Ahmedabad with a blistering 23-ball 57, helping CSK post a daunting 231 after opting to bat first.

The bowlers then backed up the effort with a clinical display, bundling out the playoff-bound Titans for just 147 in 18.3 overs.

Captain MS Dhoni expressed satisfaction with the all-round performance. “Good to finish on a good note. This was one of the perfect performances from the bowling, batting and fielding department. This was one game where the catching was also good,” Dhoni said post-match.
