India Set for Women’s World Cup Opener Amid Tensions

India will take on Sri Lanka in their Women’s World Cup opener on September 30. The hosts recently suffered a heavy 152-run defeat against England in a warm-up match. Amid heightened Indo-Pak tensions, Harmanpreet Kaur and her team will face Pakistan on October 5, a match that could spark controversy. The Indian men’s team is also set to clash with Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup final, having already faced each other twice in the tournament, both matches marked by handshake disputes, verbal exchanges, and questionable celebrations.
Harmanpreet Kaur breaks silence on IND vs PAK controversies

Ahead of the Women’s World Cup, Harmanpreet Kaur addressed the intense rivalry between the Indian and Pakistan men’s teams, which has intensified during the ongoing Asia Cup. She said, “Well, we can only control one thing which is playing cricket on the field and we are not thinking of other things. As cricketers, we can only control the things we have in our hand. I have zero control over other parts and don’t even take those things into my mind. We don’t discuss them in the dressing room. We are only here to play cricket and our focus is only on cricket.”
Harmanpreet also spoke about the significance of leading India in a home ODI World Cup. “Leading your country is always a very special moment for any player, but leading your country in an ODI World Cup is even more special, and on top of that, it is a home World Cup. When I started playing, I never thought I would get the opportunity to lead my country—it was only a dream. The ODI World Cup is happening after 12 years at home, and it is going to be amazing. It’s all about enjoying this moment and not taking too much pressure.”
