Sai Sudharsan has received his first-ever call-up to the Indian Test squad for the upcoming England Test series. The left-handed batsman is all set to begin a new phase in his cricketing career during India’s 2025 tour of England.
At 23 years old, Sai has showcased impressive performances in domestic cricket as well as in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the past few years. Recently, he clinched the Orange Cap in IPL 2025 by scoring 759 runs in 15 matches for the Gujarat Titans (GT), including a remarkable century.
Earlier this year, in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, he scored 304 runs across four innings for Tamil Nadu, including one century and one half-century. In first-class cricket, he has amassed 1,957 runs in 29 matches, with seven centuries and five fifties, maintaining an average of 39.39.
Robin Uthappa Believes Sai Sudharsan Can Represent India in All Formats

Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa praised Sai Sudharsan’s impressive form in IPL 2025 during a discussion on Jio Hotstar. He expressed confidence that the Gujarat Titans opener has the potential to become a three-format player for India, alongside Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
“Sai Sudharsan’s rise has been remarkable. Just last season, he was retired out because he wasn’t scoring quickly enough. This year, without changing his technique, he’s improved his shot selection and boosted his strike rate from 130 to 170. Now, he’s the Orange Cap holder,” said the 39-year-old.
“That’s really impressive. I genuinely believe he’s one of India’s future players who can excel in all three formats, right up there with Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal,” added the former wicketkeeper-batsman.
Sai Sudharsan has already featured in three ODIs and one T20I for India. He performed well in his brief ODI stint, scoring two half-centuries in three matches.
With the recent exclusion of key batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the Test squad, Sai Sudharsan is a strong contender to make his Test debut in the upcoming England series. India and England will compete in five Tests from June 20 to August 4.
