In the first innings, Pant smashed 134 runs off 178 balls, helping India post a massive total of 471 all out. His century was part of a trio of brilliant knocks, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill also reaching triple figures.
However, in the second innings, while Gill (8) and Jaiswal (4) failed to deliver, Pant rose to the occasion once again, notching up another century. After reaching his century, Pant attempted to accelerate but was dismissed for 118 runs off 140 balls. Meanwhile, KL Rahul also scored a century in the match’s second innings. Rahul and Pant put together a 195-run partnership for the fourth wicket, bringing the score to over 284/4 at the time Pant got out.
Earlier, in the first innings, India took a six-run lead after bowling England out for 465. Ollie Pope scored a century for the hosts, while pacer Jasprit Bumrah delivered an impressive five-wicket haul for India.
