Breaking News: IPL 2025 Postponed for One Week; New Schedule and Venues to Be Revealed Soon

The BCCI has announced a one-week suspension of the remainder of IPL 2025. On Friday, May 9, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued an official update regarding the future of IPL 2025. The 59th match of IPL 2025, between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC), was halted midway on Thursday, May 8.

The match had been progressing at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala as scheduled, but was interrupted in the first innings due to technical issues at the venue.

A power outage in the city caused the floodlights at the HPCA stadium to fail. As a result, players, umpires, match officials, support staff, and spectators were quickly evacuated. Due to disruptions in air travel, the BCCI arranged for all players and match officials to be transported back to Delhi by train.

IPL Vice-President Rajiv Shukla announced that the PBKS vs DC match had been called off due to security concerns. He further stated that the BCCI would make a final decision regarding the future of IPL 2025 the following day.

In an official statement, the BCCI confirmed the suspension of the tournament for one week, effective immediately. They also mentioned that the revised schedule and venues for the remaining matches would be shared in the coming days.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues will be announced after a thorough assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders,” read the BCCI’s statement.

To date, IPL 2025 has seen 58 matches played, excluding the PBKS vs DC clash, which was abandoned. With 74 matches scheduled in total, 16 games remain, including the playoffs and final. Currently, Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) occupy the top two spots in the points table.

It is important to note that on April 22, The Resistance Front (TRF), a terror group based in Pakistan, carried out an attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 26 innocent civilians. In retaliation, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

This escalating tension along the Indo-Pak border has impacted cities like Dharamsala. Earlier, the BCCI condemned the Pahalgam attack and paid tribute to the victims during the Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) match.
