Aiden Markram: West Indies women’s cricket team captain Hayley Matthews has won this award for the fourth time
South Africa batsman Aiden Markram and West Indies women’s cricket team captain Hayley Matthews have been named Player of the Month by the ICC in the men’s and women’s categories respectively for June 2025.

Aiden Markram has won this award leaving behind his teammate Kagiso Rabada and Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka. He has received this award after his efforts to defeat Australia in the final of the ICC Test World Championship held at Lord’s.

This 30-year-old African player performed brilliantly in the final, scoring 136 runs, and also shared an important partnership of 147 runs for the third wicket with captain Temba Bavuma. South Africa won the match by 5 wickets. South Africa won the ICC title for the first time since the 1998 Champions Trophy. Aiden Markram also took one wicket each in both innings in the final.
Haley won the title for the fourth time
On the other hand, West Indies women’s captain Hayley Matthews has won this award for the fourth time. Earlier, Hayley has also won this title in November 2021, October 2023 and April 2024. She has become the second player after Australia’s all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner to do so.
The West Indies captain scored 104 runs in three ODIs against South Africa. Which also included a half-century. In this series, he also took a total of four wickets. After this, he also contributed to West Indies’ 2-1 win in the T20 series.
Both the players also gave their respective reactions on being selected for the ICC Player of the Month June 2025. Markram said, “It is an honour for me to receive this award. Contributing to the ICC World Test Championship win means a lot to me. Winning the final at Lord’s is a historic moment for South African cricket, and it will always be memorable for all of us.”
On the other hand, Hayley Matthews said, “It is an honour to receive the Player of the Month award again. I am happy with my form right now. But, most importantly, I was able to contribute to the team’s victory. However, my focus is on the future because there is still a lot to achieve at the individual and team level.”
