Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to return to the Indian side for the upcoming three-match ODI series in Australia. Ahead of the first ODI in Perth on October 19, Australian opener Travis Head expressed his expectation that the Indian legends will feature in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.
As the series kicks off in Perth this Sunday (October 19, 2025), attention will be firmly on the star Indian batsmen, amid widespread speculation about their future.
While this series is expected to be Rohit and Kohli’s last in Australia, Travis Head told reporters he would bet on seeing them in the ODI World Cup two years from now. Speaking alongside India spinner Axar Patel, Head praised their prowess:
“Two exceptional players, two of the greatest in white-ball cricket. Virat is probably the best white-ball player ever, and Rohit isn’t far behind. As a fellow opener in this format, I have immense respect for Rohit and all he’s achieved. I’m certain they’ll be missed…”

India and Australia frequently face off across formats, and thanks to the Indian Premier League (IPL), players from both teams are well-acquainted. Travis Head, however, hasn’t yet had the chance to discuss batting with Rohit Sharma, though he hopes to do so in the future.
“Even from a distance, it’s impressive to watch him play. He approaches the game the right way, and having faced him often in the IPL and international cricket, it’s clear he plays with the right mindset,” said Travis Head.
The southpaw added, “I haven’t had direct contact with him or the chance to play alongside him, but hopefully that opportunity comes. He’s likely to continue playing for a while, so there might be a chance to connect in India.”
Looking ahead to the series, Travis Head anticipates a tough contest.
“It’s always a big series. With eight matches against highly skilled opponents, it promises to be an exciting start to the summer,” he concluded.
