Bihar appoints Vaibhav Suryavanshi as vice-captain for Ranji Trophy 2025-26 squad announcement

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made remarkable progress in his cricketing journey over the past few months. On Monday (13th October), the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) announced the squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2025-26. The 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been named vice-captain of the side, which will be led by Sakibul Gani.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi appointment as vice-captain is a significant milestone. Despite his young age, he has been entrusted with a key leadership role, reflecting his rapid rise in Indian cricket—especially following his impressive performances for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Vaibhav Suryavanshi selection comes on the back of outstanding displays for India U19 during recent tours to England and Australia. The young batter was instrumental in his team’s victories in both series.

In Australia, he smashed a 78-ball century in the first four-day match in Brisbane and finished as the second-highest run-scorer of the multi-day series, amassing 133 runs in three innings, contributing to India U19’s 2-0 series win.

During the England tour, he recorded the fastest century in youth one-day internationals with a 143-run innings. Across the series, he accumulated 355 runs at a strike rate of 174.01, finishing as the leading run-getter.

Since making his first-class debut in January 2024 at just 12 years and 284 days,Vaibhav Suryavanshi has played five matches, scoring 100 runs in ten innings, with a top score of 41. With more experience under his belt, he will be eager to make a strong impact in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26.
