According to ESPNCricinfo, the Delhi Capitals’ co-owners are in talks to relaunch the Tallawahs, who have won the CPL three times. The team, one of the league’s six founding sides, has been absent from the past two seasons. In 2023, Kris Persaud, the franchise’s most recent owner, returned it to the league and acquired the rights to a new team, the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.
Persaud attributed the initial dissolution of the franchise to a lack of support from the Jamaican government. However, following recent investments in Sabina Park facilities, the Ministry of Sports and Tourism announced ahead of this month’s elections—won by the current Labour Party—that it is “finalizing arrangements” to restore a CPL franchise in Jamaica.
Delhi Capitals: GMR Capitals Eye Relaunch of Jamaica Tallawahs in CPL

Over recent years, Indian infrastructure giant GMR has significantly expanded its presence in global cricket. Beyond owning teams in Indian sports like kabaddi and kho-kho, the group is involved with Southern Brave in The Hundred, Dubai Capitals in the ILT20, Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket, and Hampshire in English county cricket.
Delhi Capitals: Earlier this month, CPL CEO Pete Russell said the league is “very excited at the prospect of a return to Jamaica” after “fruitful and engaging discussions” with the administration. “We are hopeful these negotiations will reach a positive conclusion in the coming months,” he added.
Delhi Capitals: GMR officials attended Sunday’s CPL final, signaling their strong interest in taking the reins of the team from the next season. Their addition as a seventh team in the league would also increase the total number of matches played.
