IPL 2025: Fans React as CSK Crash Out of Tournament, Miss Playoffs for Second Year in a Row

Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by four wickets in the 49th match of IPL 2025. The match took place on Wednesday, April 30, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. It was a do-or-die clash for CSK to stay in the playoff race. However, the MS Dhoni-led side suffered their eighth loss of the season and are now officially out of contention for the playoffs.

Batting first, CSK posted a total of 190 runs, thanks to a brilliant 88-run knock from Sam Curran. However, Yuzvendra Chahal turned the tide with a stunning four-wicket haul, including a hat-trick, to limit CSK from reaching a bigger total. Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen also chipped in with two wickets each.

In response, PBKS chased down the target with impressive half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh. Iyer’s match-winning innings of 72 runs earned him the Player of the Match award. With this win, PBKS climbed to second place on the points table with 13 points, while CSK remain at the bottom.

Chennai Super Kings have been officially eliminated from the playoff contention for the second consecutive year. With just four points from 10 matches and eight losses, the maximum they can now accumulate is 12 points not enough to secure a playoff spot.

This marks the fourth instance in which the five-time IPL champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), have failed to make the playoffs, having previously exited in 2020, 2022, and 2024. Notably, this is the first time CSK has missed out on qualification in consecutive seasons.

The team’s early exit left fans both stunned and heartbroken, with many taking to social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to voice their disappointment. The outpouring of frustration from supporters reflected the high expectations surrounding CSK, who have historically been a dominant force in the IPL. The early departure from the tournament this season was a significant blow, as fans had hoped for a much stronger showing.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are set to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Match 52 of the season. The upcoming match is set for Saturday, May 3, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are currently at the top of the points table with 14 points. Fans are eagerly anticipating the clash, as RCB looks to strengthen their position and continue their strong campaign. The match promises to be an exciting encounter, with both teams aiming for a crucial victory in the tournament.
