Anshul Kamboj Likely to Make Test Debut in Manchester After Akash Deep’s Injury

India are set to hand Anshul Kamboj his Test debut in the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, Manchester, following the injury-induced exit of pacer Akash Deep. Kamboj, who was recently added to the squad for the remainder of the series, has impressed in the domestic circuit with 79 wickets in 24 First-Class matches at an average of 22.88. He also has 486 runs to his name, including a top score of 51*.
Confirming Akash Deep’s unavailability, Indian captain Shubman Gill hinted at Kamboj’s likely inclusion in the playing XI for the Test starting Wednesday.
“Shubman Gill, We’ve seen enough of Anshul (Kamboj). He understands the team’s expectations and knows how to win matches for us. While it’s not ideal to keep changing combinations after every match, he’s very close to making his debut. It’s between him and Prasidh,” said Shubman Gill.
Shubman Gill: Meanwhile, England have named their XI for the fourth Test, making one change—Liam Dawson comes in for the injured Shoaib Bashir. Historically, India have never won a Test match against England in Manchester, adding extra significance to the upcoming clash.
