Joe Root reached a major milestone during the second ODI between England and the West Indies. The England Cricket Team faced off against the West Indies in the second match of their ongoing three-match ODI series on Sunday, June 1, at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. In this match, Joe Root became the highest run-scorer in ODI history for England.

England captain Harry Brook won the toss and chose to bowl first. The West Indies posted a total of 308 runs before being bowled out. Opener Brandon King contributed 59 runs, while captain Shai Hope added 78.

Keacy Carty, batting at number three, played a brilliant innings and scored a century (103), helping his team reach a strong total. In response, England suffered early setbacks as openers Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett were both dismissed for ducks. But Joe Root, batting at number three, stabilized the innings with a vital half-century, keeping England in the contest.

Joe Root has now become England’s all-time leading run-scorer in One Day Internationals, overtaking former captain Eoin Morgan with a brilliant performance. Morgan had amassed 6,957 runs in 207 innings during his ODI career, playing 225 matches for England between 2009 and 2022.

So far, Joe Root has featured in 179 ODIs for England. Remarkably, he is only the second English batter after Morgan to score over 6,000 ODI runs. In total, just five England players have crossed the 5,000-run mark in ODIs. Recently, Root also etched his name in history by becoming the first English player to score over 13,000 runs in Test cricket.
