Wayne Parnell has named MS Dhoni as the captain of his all-time ODI XI. The former South African pacer selected three Indian players, three Pakistan players, and two stalwarts from South Africa in his ultimate one-day lineup. Wayne Parnell revealed his choices during a conversation with CricTracker.
For the opening slots, he chose Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar alongside former Proteas opener Hashim Amla. Tendulkar, with over 18,000 ODI runs, remains the highest run-scorer in the format, while Amla, with 27 centuries, holds the record for the most ODI tons by a South African.
In the middle order, Wayne Parnell included Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Michael Hussey. Kohli leads the ODI century charts with 51 hundreds, while AB de Villiers ranks as South Africa’s second-highest run-scorer in the 50-over game.
He selected Shahid Afridi as his spin all-rounder and MS Dhoni as both wicket-keeper and captain. In their prime, Afridi and Dhoni were both lethal finishers. For the pace attack, Wayne Parnell brought in former Pakistan legends Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.
The third fast bowler was former Australian speedster Brett Lee, who played a key role in Australia’s 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup triumph. Wayne Parnell also included Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan, the highest wicket-taker in ODI history, as his specialist spinner in the all-time ODI XI.
