Suryakumar had been sidelined since the conclusion of IPL 2025. Post-tournament, he traveled to Germany for sports hernia surgery and recently returned to India to focus on rehabilitation.
The batter has been rigorously training at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru. Sharing glimpses of his recovery on social media, Suryakumar has also resumed batting, signaling a strong comeback.
His fitness puts to rest speculations about his Asia Cup participation. With Suryakumar available, India gains one of its most consistent and impactful T20 batters, adding significant firepower to the squad ahead of the tournament.

A source close to developments confirmed to PTI that Suryakumar Yadav has successfully cleared his fitness test. “Fitness tests are mandatory before Return to Play (RTP) post-surgery. Surya has cleared the fitness test,” the source said.
Suryakumar was in scintillating form during IPL 2025, amassing 717 runs and becoming only the second Mumbai Indians batter after Sachin Tendulkar to score over 600 runs in a single season. He finished as the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament, playing a crucial role in guiding MI to the playoffs.
The Asia Cup 2025 is set to begin on 9th September, with the final scheduled for 28th September. India will kick off their campaign on 10th September against the UAE, aiming to defend their title and lift the trophy once again.
