Spain will take on France in the semi-finals of the Nations League, scheduled for June 5th in Stuttgart. Manager Luis de la Fuente has announced the squad for the crucial clash in Germany, with one of the biggest stories being the return of 33-year-old Real Betis playmaker Isco, making a sensational comeback after a six-year absence.
As the reigning Euro 2024 champions, Spain head into the semi-finals as strong favourites, having edged past the Netherlands in a dramatic penalty shootout in the quarter-finals. The winner of this clash will go on to face either Portugal or Germany, who meet the previous night.
Isco, who missed Spain’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against Sweden and the Faroe Islands in 2019, and was ruled out of Euro 2024 due to a late injury, has reclaimed his spot after an outstanding second half of the La Liga season.
In defence, Barcelona’s Pau Cubarsí returns from injury to replace Iñigo Martínez, while Real Madrid’s new signing Dean Huijsen retains his place ahead of future teammate Raúl Asencio. Meanwhile, Gavi is also back in the squad for the first time since suffering a cruciate ligament injury in 2023.
Barcelona winger Ferran Torres, currently in excellent form, is sidelined due to appendicitis surgery, with De la Fuente reportedly deciding the recovery window was too narrow for a return. Notably, Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García has been omitted—a decision that may influence his future with the national team.
