Rishabh Pant has been fined for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during Lucknow Super Giants’ match against Mumbai Indians. Here’s everything you need to know about the penalty.
Rishabh Pant Fined for Slow Over-Rate, LSG Penalized

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been fined for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during the match against Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. LSG was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate, resulting in Pant being fined INR 24 lakh. The rest of the playing XI, including impact player David Miller, will be fined either INR 6 lakh or 25% of their respective match fees, whichever is lower.
“As this was his team’s second offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Pant was fined INR 24 lakh,” the BCCI stated in an official release.
In the IPL 2025 match between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai won by 54 runs after LSG failed to chase down 216 runs. Jasprit Bumrah returned with four wickets as LSG was bowled out for 161. For LSG, Ayush Badoni top-scored with 35 runs. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant’s poor form continued as he managed only four runs, attempting a reverse sweep off Will Jacks’ bowling but ended up handing a simple catch to Karn Sharma at short third man.
What did Rishabh Pant say after the loss?

Earlier, LSG captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to bowl first. However, the decision backfired as the hosts piled up 215/7 in their allotted 20 overs, powered by half-centuries from Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton.
When asked if the decision to bowl was the right one, Pant explained, “We feel as a team it was the right decision for us to bowl first because most of the time, we back our batting. Yes, bowlers, we want to give the best conditions for them, but today wasn’t our day.” He added, “The other team is playing good cricket. You’ve got to give credit to them instead of just looking to question yourself. As a team, the dip is there, but we can figure it out because we have a break at the right time. Keeping it very simple, not thinking about it too much.”
Currently, Lucknow Super Giants sit in seventh place on the points table. They will next face Punjab Kings on Sunday, May 4, in Dharamsala.
