Indian veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra has announced his retirement from professional cricket. Thus, his career spanning more than 25 years has come to an end.

Amit Mishra represented India in 22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 10 T20 Internationals and took 156 wickets across formats. Mishra was one of the best spinners for the Indian team, who used to trick batsmen with his fast spin and flight.
Announcing his decision, Mishra admitted that frequent injuries and a desire to give the next generation of cricketers enough opportunities at the highest level influenced his decision to retire.

Mishra said in a statement, “These 25 years of my life in cricket have been memorable. I am deeply grateful to the BCCI, administration, Haryana Cricket Association, support staff, my teammates and my family members who stood by me during this time.”
He further said, “I would like to thank the fans whose love and support made this journey memorable whenever and wherever I played. Cricket has given me countless memories and invaluable learnings, and every moment spent on the field has become a memory that I will cherish for a lifetime.”
The leg-spinner made his international debut during the ODI tri-series in Bangladesh in 2003 and had to wait till 2008 to play a Test match against Australia in Mohali, where he made an immediate impact by taking five wickets in his very first match.
Mishra was also part of the 2014 T20 World Cup
He was also part of the 2014 T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, where he took 10 wickets at an average of 14.70 and an economy rate of 6.68 and played a key role in India’s progress to the final despite India finishing second.
Mishra last represented India in 2017 but continued to play domestic cricket and the IPL. His last competitive match was for Lucknow Super Giants against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024.
Looking towards the future, Mishra expressed his desire to stay connected with the game through coaching, commentary and guiding young cricketers, as well as regularly engaging with fans through social media and YouTube.
